Christopher Houlihan

Channel 17

The young American organist Christopher Houlihan has been labeled “gifted” (New York Times), “dazzling” (Wall Street Journal), and “eloquent…launch[ed on] a major career” (Los Angeles Times).

His Vierne 2012 tour attracted critical acclaim for performing the six symphonies of Louis Vierne in marathon concerts in six North American cities. The Los Angeles Times called his performance there “a major surprise of the summer, a true revelation.”

Houlihan is a graduate of Trinity College in Connecticut where he studied with John Rose. He received his master’s degree at the Juilliard School where he studied with Paul Jacobs, and earned the Prix de Perfectionnement from the French National Regional Conservatory in Versailles studying with Jean-Baptiste Robin. While in France, Houlihan served as assistant musician at the American Cathedral in Paris where he had the honor of performing for the then President and First Lady of the United States, President and Mrs. George W. Bush.

Grateful recognition to Michael Timinski for his sponsorship.

Christopher’s program features works especially suited to this classic American organ by Johann Sebastian Bach and César Franck. Making this event especially memorable will be Christopher’s transcription of Bach’s Italian Concerto (BWV 971).

This third OHS Convention Webcast brings the glorious music of the OHS National Conventions to all its members across the United States and around the world. Many, many thanks to Christopher Houlihan for his agreement to participate in this OHS live event, and, of course, to the donors who have contributed the funding to make this webcast possible.

Thanks are also due to James Weaver and Len Levasseur from the OHS.

Kevin Grose, OHS Communications Advisor, provided pro bono management of this OHS Convention Webcast in cooperation with Cornell University IT Video Collaboration Services of the Weill-Ithaca Inter-Campus Collaboration Project.
