Notes
The organ
was free-standing and encased. The casework was quarter-sawn oak
and the first 17 pipes of the Great 8' Open
Diapason were in the facade. The keydesk was attached and
projecting, and stops were controlled by a typical Haskell miniature
keyboard located over the Swell manual. It was a tubular-pneumatic
instrument.
The exact nomenclature
of stops and controls is not verified since the organ has since been
rebuilt.
Spellings given here were based on the extant pipework and writing
on the chests, as well as other extant
and documented examples of the builder's work from this period.
The church later
became known as Grace Methodist Episcopal Church. The organ was
ultimately offered for sale and was purchased by Balcom and Vaughan of
Seattle, WA. who electrified the primary action, added two ranks, made
one pipe substitution, and installed the organ at the Seventh-day
Adventist Church in Chehalis, WA. with a new console. This was done as
B&V's opus 465 in 1948. The additions were a flat 8' Unda Maris
celeste on the Great and a sharp 8' Voix Celeste on the Swell. Both
ranks were 49 pipes on new chests. The substitution was a real,
full-compass, 8' Oboe in place of the original, tenor C reedless set.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church listed their building for sale in
1993.
The organ was purchased by Mr. Russ Davis of Mill Creek/Bothell, WA who
has plans to install it in a new home.
