Notes
This organ was likely
installed for the Estey Organ Corporation by Balcom and Vaughan of
Seattle. It was originally installed in the former edifice of St. John
the Baptist Episcopal Church. In that location, it was
installed in two separate chambers, divided over the choir stalls
on both sides at the front of the room. Each side had a facade of gold
dummy pipes.
The organ was given in memory of Harry H. Eyman - vestryman and
communicant of the parish - by his wife Louise H. Eyman.
The Initiatory Recital
was given by Walter A. Eichinger, Assistant Professor in the School of
Music at the University of Washington. It took place at 5:00 p.m. on
Sunday afternoon, March 20, 1949. The program was as follows:
Concerto No.
IV.......................................................Handel
Allegro
Andante
Cathedral Prelude and
Fugue......................................Bach
Chorale-Prelude,
"O Sacred Head now Wounded".......Bach
Piece
Heroique.......................................................Franck
Canon in B
minor..............................................Schumann
Offfertory Anthem
"Jesu, friend of sinners".................................Edward Grieg
Prelude on "Iam sol
recedit igneus".......................Simonds
Rhythmic
Trumpet...............................................Bingham
Lied......................................................................Vierne
Toccata from 5th
Symphony....................................Widor
The parish built a new
church and Balcom and Vaughan removed the organ for demolition and
construction, and then reinstalled it in the new edifice.
As reinstalled it was placed in side-by-side chambers in the rear
gallery, with the Swell and Pedal 16'/8' Bourdon on the left and the
Great and Pedal 16'/8' Diapason on the right. The console was placed
centered and close to the gallery rail - facing the chamber and choir
seating.
The organ has many
Haskelled basses: the Pedal 16' / 8' Diapason, 1-24; the Great 8'
Diapason, 1-12; The Great 8' Melodia, 1-11; the Great 8' Dulciana,
1-12; the Swell 8' Diapason, 1-12; and the Swell 8' Salicional, 1-12.
The Pedal 16' Lieblich Gedeckt is the same as the 16' Bourdon but with
all 32 pipes on soft wind.
At some point in the
past, the Swell 8' Open Diapason has been transposed one octave and is
playing as a 4' Principal.
