Source: Shop notes dated 22 Feb 1968 provided by Allen Kinzey; further work was done on the organ in the late 1980s and the console was rebuilt by Douglas Harrison Cable in 2000.  The console, an Aeolian-Skinner replica, placed the inter-manual couplers above the fourth manual.

Notes: According to an article in the December 1990 issue of The American Organist, the first organ for St. Paul's was a 2-manual hand-powered Hook & Hastings shipped around Cape Horn to San Diego for installation in the old church in 1887; it was the first pipe organ in the city. In 1915, a 3/19 Johnston (of Van Nuys CA) organ was installed, retaining 8 of the Hook & Hastings ranks.  The organ was moved to the present building and, in 1953, ten more stops were added. These were made by Möller and installed by Leonard Dowling.
