Notes: Christ Church was founded in 1854 as a mission of the city's first Episcopal parish, Trinity. The present Gothic Revival building, designed by Henry Vaughan, was consecrated in 1898. The tower, a close adaption of the tower at Magdalen College, Oxford (1492-1507), was the prototype for countless churches and college chapels. The parish became a national leader in the Anglo-Catholic movement, hosting the American Catholic Congress of the Episcopal Church in 1925. The first organ in the present building was Hutchings Op. 384, a three-manual 45-rank tubular-pneumatic instrument installed in 1896. It was electrified by the Hall Organ Co. in the 1920s and Aeolian-Skinner installed a new console as Op. 1066 in 1945. The firm then carried out extensive tonal changes in 1954 as Op. 1066-A, using much of the Hutchings pipework with considerable alterations. The A. Thompson-Allen Organ Co. has since overhauled the instrument with slight alterations. One stop, the Clarinet, was replaced with a set of pipes from Aeolian-Skinner Op. 851, 1931, formerly at Trinity College in Hartford. The organ, offered for sale in 2004 thru the Organ Clearing House, was replaced by a 3/63 Lively-Fulcher in 2005.
