Notes: The organ was originally a Hilborne L. Roosevelt installed in the Chicago Auditorium in 1889. When the organ was auctioned off just prior to the demolition of the Auditorium building, Dr. William H. Barnes bought the organ for $1000.00. It was stored in the basement of the First Baptist Church of Evanston, Illinois, until he donated it to Indiana University for installation by Aeolian-Skinner, who rebuilt and enlarged it, as well as adding a new console, in their 1941 Auditorium. The 7,253 pipes of the organ were installed behind four widely spaced grills in the left wall of the auditorium. It was badly damaged by fire in 1961 and was replaced by a IV/81 Schantz Op. 887 in 1969, retaining six ranks of the original organ. The old Positiv division was used for a two-manual practice organ.
