Morley Music Hall was designed around this grand instrument. For many years, college and community gathered for concerts and recitals as the magnificent voice of our organ filled Morley Hall. Beginning in the 1950s, trends in organ music began to favor a more contemporary sound. In the 1970s, our organ underwent a timbre "upgrade." Skinner pipes were replaced and the console was modernized. Through the 1980s, it was evident that the organ had lost some of the voice Mr. Skinner intended it to have. By the mid-1990s, weather and time had done further damage and the organ was unplayable. Organ Historical Society Database: https://pipeorgandatabase.org/OrganDetails.php?OrganID=23336 |
